Who Are the Dadvocates?

The Dadvocates are family law attorneys and criminal defense lawyers who understand that men face unique challenges in legal proceedings. Even though the law is written in gender-neutral terms, the reality is that sexist stereotypes and outdated cultural expectations often place men at a disadvantage in a court of law, especially in matters of child custody and child support. Our lawyers have dedicated their careers to counteracting these gender biases and defending men's rights.

Our attorneys operate throughout the state of California, representing fathers and men without children in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and everywhere in between. If you have a case you'd like to discuss with our law team, please contact us today to set up a consultation and get the information you need.

Courtroom and Jury

A Trial-Ready Approach

Other California lawyers may be afraid of court, but not the Dadvocates. We take on every case with a willingness to go as far as necessary to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients. If that means appearing in court before a judge and jury, then that's what our lawyers will do.

We will never tell you to settle for an unfair custody/support arrangement or to take a plea deal because we don't want to go through litigation. Our attorneys have the confidence and the knowledge of California law to appear before a judge and persuasively present your side of the case. When you work with our legal practice, you will be able to trust that your lawyer did everything possible within the law to protect your rights, your family, and your freedom.

Child Custody

California law directs judges in family court to approve custody plans that serve the best interest of the child. Our attorneys believe, and we're sure you agree, that it is in the best interest of the child to spend a significant amount of time with Dad. Whether you're negotiating a custody arrangement with a co-parent or petitioning a judge for more custody, our lawyers can help you with all legal matters related to custody and visitation.

Child Support

Are you struggling to make ends meet because of child support payments? Or are you unable to provide for your child because you're not receiving the support you are due from your co-parent? Whatever the case may be, our attorneys can help. We understand child support law in California, and we help dads negotiate and modify these legal agreements.

Spousal Support

When it comes to alimony or spousal support in California, men often end up with bad deals. Although the law allows for a spouse of any gender to receive alimony, men can face discrimination by judges, even if their soon-to-be-ex-spouses earn significantly more income. Our attorneys can help you receive the support you need and help you avoid paying support you can't afford.

Military Divorce

Divorce is always a complex process, but divorces involving members of the military can be especially complicated. If you're stationed in California and thinking about ending your marriage, consult with our lawyers. We can help you sort through the legal complexities, including matters related to military pensions and Survivor Benefit Plans.

Domestic Violence Defense

Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for disgruntled partners to make false accusations of domestic violence during a divorce or a custody dispute. Of course, men are particularly vulnerable to these bad-faith accusations. The Dadvocates know how to defend men who have been accused of domestic violence.

DUI Defense

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the state of California carries heavy consequences, including large fines, license suspension, and potential jail time. However, DUI charges are not unbeatable. Our attorneys can investigate the traffic stop that led to your arrest to determine if the stop was legal and whether any sobriety test was administered properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

for Our California Law Firm

We look forward to providing legal guidance and other crucial information during your consultation. Until then, we invite you to explore answers to some of the questions we field most frequently regarding both civil and criminal cases:

Do I need a lawyer?

The law never requires you to work with an attorney. However, if you are facing criminal charges or any kind of family law dispute, we highly recommend that you at least consult with a legal professional. With an attorney on your side who understands the intricacies of California law, your chances of success greatly increase.

When can I call?

The Dadvocates are always ready to receive calls from new clients. You can call our legal practice right now to schedule a time for your virtual consultation.

What will we cover in a consultation?

During your initial legal consultation with one of our lawyers, we will listen to your story and ask questions about your case. Then, we will help you understand the law and recommend the best course of action. We will honestly recommend whether we are the right firm for you, and then you can decide whether or not to hire the Dadvocates.

I think my divorce will be amicable and my spouse wants to draft the terms in mediation. Why do I need a lawyer?

Because when it comes to divorce, it's every party for themselves. Yours may not involve any interpersonal hostility, but that doesn't mean your spouse and their attorney aren't proposing lopsided terms that appear reasonable to someone who lacks legal expertise. Investing in an attorney dedicated to your best interests can have profound benefits that enrich the rest of your life.

How much of my military pension is my spouse entitled to after our divorce?

A pension is considered marital property under the Uniformed Services Former Spouse Protection Act (USFSPA), which means the state can divide it in any way it sees fit. Involve an attorney to make sure that this and other property is divided equitably. Our attorneys are well-versed in this area and others that are unique to a military divorce.

I've been charged and booked into custody. Should I go ahead and post bail?

Talk to our criminal defense attorneys first. A lawyer will be able to analyze the case against you and assess the likelihood of your charges being dropped during arraignment (the first court hearing in your case), in which case there would be no need to post bail. If the case proceeds, your attorney may be able to negotiate a lower bail amount, or even arrange for you to be released without paying any bail at all.

I've been charged with DUI after failing a breathalyzer at a traffic stop. Do I have any hope of beating the charges?

With the help of an attorney, it's possible. Field sobriety tests as well as chemical tests involve a wealth of opportunity for human error, and it's possible that your traffic stop wasn't legal to begin with. But it takes legal expertise and familiarity with DUI cases to identify when faulty police work makes a defendant look guilty. Get in touch with the Dadvocates so we can get to work analyzing your case.

I had a very long and difficult divorce. I hired Dadvocates, and they were amazing. When I was ready to pull my hair out and give up, they were there to help me through so much. We had to deal with so much during my divorce, particularly an IRS audit (Ex wife embezzled money from my business which led to its own simultaneous nightmare). They were both always there and responded to my calls and emails as quickly as they could. I'm very happy and thankful to everyone at the Dadvocates for their hard work.
